THE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL
Every year, RAI Com organises the International Cross-media and Children’s Television Animation Festival, Cartoons on the Bay, in order to support and represent the wide range of offerings in animation and explore new developments and trends in the field of Media and Entertainment for Children and Young People. After having been hosted by a number of different cities, for the last three years Cartoons on the Bay, which has recently celebrated its twentieth birthday, has taken place in Venice. The festival, promoted by the Rai and made into a reality by Rai Com, has received the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic.
CROSS-MEDIA AND CHILDREN’S TV ANIMATION
Every year, the festival chooses a country to host the event; in 2016, South Africa was selected. An international jury awards the Pulcinella Award to products in different categories: kids, teens, TV series, live action/hybrid, video games, and two special awards, one of which is chosen by UNICEF. A theme is chosen for each edition of the festival. In 2016, this theme was myths in their various forms and the meeting of different peoples and communities through myths, religions and migration flows. The festival always offers a broad retrospective of recent content, with many exclusive previews.
