Linea Verde Sentieri

The Two Souls of Calabria

Saturday, July 19, 2025, on Rai 1, 12:30 PM

A new journey for “Linea Verde Sentieri” (Green Line Trails) to discover the paths that crisscross Italy and its beauties. Giulia Capocchi and Lino Zani will explore the two souls of Calabria, the sea and the mountains, on foot and by bicycle along the cycle paths that cross the region.

Lino Zani will start from Lake Ampollino, an enchanting place surrounded by the Sila mountains, and head north, touching the three large lakes of the region, protected by the Sila National Park, the first national park established in Calabria. His adventure will lead him to climb the highest peak of the Sila, Monte Botte Donato, at an altitude of 2000 meters, which offers breathtaking views. During his journey, Lino will also meet a family who has ventured into wine production, planting Europe’s highest vineyard. His journey will end in the heart of the Sila plateau, where true living monuments, the Laricio pines, giants of the Sila, stand as testaments to the beauty and majesty of this region.

Giulia, on the other hand, will travel along the Val di Neto cycle path, which goes from the Sila to the beaches of the Ionian Sea. Her first stop will be Caccuri, followed by a visit to the castle of Santa Severina. The next stop will be in the municipality of Rocca di Neto, to discover an incredibly valuable historical settlement: the rock-cut caves, inhabited from prehistory to the Middle Ages. Finally, she’ll arrive at the beach near the mouth of the Neto river, within a protected oasis.

A fascinating journey through culture, history, and breathtaking landscapes.
