Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio

With 40 reproductions of his most representative works, the Caravaggio exhibition takes us on a journey that spans the entire length of his career, from the early creations of his youth to his later works. Caravaggio introduced an innovative artistic language to the canvas which would revolutionise the very concept of painting at that time. For him, it was light that shaped the image, defining its contours and essence. This is evident in his still lifes, such as the famous Basket of Fruit, as well as in more dramatic and complex works such as The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist. Caravaggio captures reality with a realism charged with emotional tension, in which light emerges from shadows, lending an intense beauty to the figures of saints and madonnas. This chiaroscuro effect creates a powerful contrast that makes his works unique and timeless.
