“Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac” will take place at Cartoons On The Bay 2023

On June 1st, the Italian premiere of the film “I Cavalieri dello Zodiaco” (Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac) will take place at Cartoons On The Bay 2023. For the first time on the big screen, the saga of Saint Seiya by Masami Kurumada will be presented in live-action

Pescara, May 31st / June 4th, 2023

The film, directed by Tomek Bagiński, will have its Italian premiere on Thursday, June 1st, 2023, as part of Cartoons On The Bay – International Festival of Animation, Transmedia and Meta-Arts 2023. Adapted from the famous animated series, it brings the saga of Saint Seiya by Masami Kurumada to the big screen in live-action. Celebrating its 27th edition, Cartoons On The Bay, promoted by Rai and organized by Rai Com, returns to Pescara from May 31st to June 4th, 2023, following the success of last year.

Seiya, portrayed by Mackenyu, is a stubborn street teenager who spends his time searching for his kidnapped sister and fighting to earn money. When he unintentionally unleashes mystical powers during one of his battles, Seiya finds himself involved in a world of warring saints, ancient magical training, and a reincarnated goddess in need of his protection. To survive, he must embrace his destiny and sacrifice everything to claim his rightful place among the Knights of the Zodiac.

The film, produced by Toei Animation Production and also starring Famke Janssen, Madison Iseman, Diego Tinoco, Mark Dacascos, Nick Stahl, and Sean Bean, will have a theatrical release on June 26th, 27th, and 28th, 2023, produced by Sony Pictures and distributed by Eagle Pictures.

Cartoons On The Bay will also feature the presence of British film director and producer Peter Lord and Israeli film director and producer Ari Folman, who will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. Ian Mackinnon, producer and stop-motion legend, will accept the Studio of the Year 2023 award on behalf of Studio MacKinnon & Saunders and will also be part of the festival’s international jury, which will award the Pulcinella Awards in various competition categories.
